The recent announcement by Microsoft that Teams has doubled user numbers year-on-year. With 145 million active daily users, up from 115 million in October 2020. This number is even more impressive when the reported numbers of active users of Teams before the start of the global pandemic was 32 million users at the end of 2019.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella when speaking about Teams was quoted as “……. Teams is extending beyond communications and has become a new category in collaboration….”

As Microsoft Teams becomes an essential and prevalent collaboration tool for businesses worldwide across multiple market sectors and industries. Does this phenomenal growth and adoption show any signs of slowing as workers return to workplaces or adopt a blended/hybrid working schedule of working remotely and within an office?
- Is using collaboration tools like Teams, Zoom or Google Meet Up the de facto way of meeting colleagues, clients, customers, suppliers?
- Does it complement face to face meetings and allow us all to be more effective and efficient with our valuable work time?
- Does it reduce travel time and costs?
- Is it allowing workspaces to be utilised more productively without the need to have so many or a variety of meeting rooms?
All of these questions are not uncommon thoughts or active discussions being had or decisions being made by business all across the UK. The BDM Group went through this thought process early in 2020. The leadership team asked and answered these questions. How do we ensure business continuity and have every colleague work as effectively and as collaboratively as possible?
BDM’s decision was to adopt and implement a new working strategy and process that incorporated and put collaboration at the centre of how we work. We invested in hardware, software, training and additional licences.
Within both of our office locations (Burgess Hill in West Sussex and New Milton in Hampshire), we installed Yealink MVC500II a certified Microsoft Teams room system, as well as Avocor F-Series intelligent interactive touch screens in our main meeting rooms. Additionally, we provided Jabra headsets to all colleagues for use when working remotely at home or when they work from our office locations at their desks.
This is a significant investment in hardware and a true commitment and endorsement of our belief how collaboration tools are essential to business success.
BDM Group CEO Mike Surridge “Every UK business faced a common challenge during the pandemic lockdowns. How do work well together when you are all in different locations? It was essential that our team of great people continued to be able to communicate, meet and work together on projects, tasks and objectives when not face to face or in the same room. We needed to communicate and be in contact with our customers, prospects, suppliers and clients every day. Plus, how do you manage effectively a dispersed workforce? The solution for both BDM Voice and BDM Talk was simple with the adoption of Teams as our preferred platform, but with the option to switch to Zoom or Google Meet Up or NEC Univerge if our customers or clients required. Then we installed a Yealink MS Teams room system, as well as adopting Clarify software so every Teams meeting was recorded for sharing or reviewing. This investment has had tangible and dramatic positive results on how BDM colleagues collaborate and work together every day, no matter where they are located. Plus, the management team has full visibility and insight to review all Teams meetings conducted for customer and client meetings. With the video, audio, screen shares and chat functions within Teams all recorded. An investment in technology that has had a proven and measurable benefit to the business as a whole. I can’t recommend highly enough.”
With its seamless integration of Teams within Office 365. The familiarity and intuitive interfaces on the Yealink and Avocor devices ensured that all colleagues confidently embraced its use quickly. Common challenges like audio issues with background noise, unflattering camera angles, poor speech quality and the confusion of joining or scheduling video meetings were overcome and obsolete straight away.
Virtually every Teams or video collaboration meeting that BDM colleagues hosted or joined, the same conversations or comments were heard……
“How come your sound quality is so clear?” or “wow your video is really high definition!” or “wait a minute……. why and how is your camera automatically zooming and panning to frame the person speaking???”
Have you experienced any of these common challenges when using Microsoft Teams?
“People management and motivation is core and essential to my daily management of our customer contact centre here at BDM Talk. I need to be able to see and talk to my managers, team leaders and clients each day. As well as meet with the Leadership team and shared departments like Marketing or Finance. Being able to have a virtual face to face meeting using video calls in Teams, which then allows me to share documents or screen share is essential to the fast-paced nature we work in. And I personally really value the high-quality video and audio our systems provide, so I can hear and be heard easily throughout every meeting. Meetings are concise and so much more productive.” – Sharon Powell, Managing Director BDM Group
Wireless microphones with noise suppression, HD intelligent cameras, high-quality speakers and one-touch button operation to join a Teams meeting are just a couple of the many great features within the products we use and promote.
